Why field data needs context before it becomes a decision

A soil-moisture reading on its own says little. Here is how we think about turning sensor data into decisions growers can check.

Hexilia team ·

A single soil-moisture reading is a number. Whether it means “irrigate today” depends on the soil, the crop, its growth stage, the depth of the probe, the weather of the last few days and the forecast for the next few.

That is why Hexilia never shows a recommendation on its own. Every suggestion comes with the readings, records and forecasts it was built from, so the person who knows the field can check it.

Three principles we build on

  1. Show the evidence. A recommendation links to the data behind it.
  2. Be honest about uncertainty. Forecasts and models are uncertain; the interface says how much.
  3. Keep people in charge. Hexilia supports decisions. Growers and agronomists make them.

We will write more about each of these as features move from development into the hands of our first users.
